Safe Learner Blueprint

Resource:

The Safe Learner Blueprint is a template to assist Skills Funding Agency (LSC) funded organisations in developing safe learners.  Go to the Safe Learner Blueprint website to work through the six key elements to ensure that learning takes place in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.

Contained within the Blueprint is the Safe Learner Model. This recognises some important stages in health and safety learning and can be used by employers to evaluate existing practices to help in the development of safe learners.  Employers, and learning providers, who have adopted the Safe Learner Model into their policies and procedures have seen the benefits it can bring to their business.

One size does not fit all and many organisations have customised the blueprint to meet the needs of their own particular learning activities and environment. The East Midlands Learning Support Network is interested in hearing from organisations that have adapted this for learners with learning difficulties, disabilities and or mental health support requirements.

To find out more about good practice in health and safety and an introduction go to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website

A safer learning environment is about more than safer recruitment of staff and protecting learners from harm. Its is about creating  a culture of well-being, safety and security, which applies to all learners and all staff. The NIACE publication Safer Practice, Safer Learning sets out the safeguarding responsibilities of further education colleges, adult and community learning providers and providers of work-based training in the Learning and Skills Sector in England.
